Submit your Posters

Ready to join forces with others from around the globe in recommending great books for students?

The goal of this project is to help diversify bookshelves and booklists in classrooms everywhere.

It's important for everyone to have a chance to read stories that represent people from all over the world, and that means bringing more modern voices into our classrooms.

But which voices should we be paying attention to? That's where you come in!

Have you read a book that you feel represents something important about you, that helps to share part of your story? The Modern Voices Project wants to hear about it!

Please create a poster about your book using the poster tool over at Canva or some other software of your choice, then submit it as a PNG file to betsy@nowsparkcreativity.com for your chance to be featured here. (Teachers, I will appreciate it if you submit your students' best work by batch if you are assigning this to the class. But please remember, the goal here is to share books that represent our students' real lives in some way, not just to share any and all books.)

Your poster will make a difference.

  • Teachers can print it to decorate their classroom walls and encourage other students to read the book you recommend.
  • Schools can look at it when they consider new books for their curriculum, and hear your voice.
  • Librarians can use it to create new displays.
  • Other students around the world can peruse it when looking for a new independent reading book or beach read.
Start by taking a photo of your book. Think about how to present your book creatively, so that it shows up well and will make a fun poster. Check out these examples from the #yalit hashtag on Instagram.

Once you have a photo, you're ready to design a poster.

Here's what you need on your poster:

  • The title of the book
  • The author of the book
  • Your first name (ONLY) and the area where you're from (for example "Recommended by Elizabeth, from Pennsylvania")
  • The picture of your book
  • Other pictures or art you want to include, but nothing copyrighted. All photography and imagery must be original to you.
  • A few sentences to show what the work is about and give people an idea of why they want to read it.
  • One key quotation that shows something great about your book
Here's what CANNOT go on your poster:
  • Personal information about you
  • A picture of you showing your face
  • Copyrighted material that will prevent this project from sharing your work
  • Spoilers about the book you're recommending
Ready to go? Grab your camera and share your voice! Can't wait to see your work.

Accepted posters will be featured here and sometimes become part of blog posts recommending books to teachers around the world on the Spark Creativity website.
